There are so many other people who share your plight. In fact, I was once in your shoes, looking for ways to improve my health and that of my family without prescription drugs and medical intervention. For years, I thought my cravings for sugar were normal. I thought if I could just work out more and eat less I would lose weight.
Well, sometimes it worked – but not for long. I always lost the willpower to continue and the weight would creep back on, with typically a few more pounds than what I had to shed the first time. Also, I thought that I ate healthy – you know, the routine low fat, low calorie and several servings of whole grains. I was doing everything I thought was right, yet I kept struggling with my hormones, weight and digestive issues. It wasn’t until one of my daughters started having similar health problems that I knew something had to change.
As a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), I went back to the books looking for answers. Through my research I transformed my thinking and transformed my health. I discovered that eating specific nutrient rich “real” food could improve my health, and that of my family. By adding back plenty of healthy fats into our diet and eliminating grains and packaged or processed foods, I was able to turn my health around. We went back to an ancestral diet of high quality, nutrient rich vegetables, fats, protein and fruit. Right now, I no longer feel sick after eating nor do I have irritable bowel, intestinal cramping or skin rashes. As a matter of fact my skin is healthier than ever and people tell me I even look younger! Now, my efforts are actually working and are sustainable.
That’s why today, I’m going to share with you what nutritional therapy is and how you can use it to improve your health and get back to living life free of chronic symptoms and unhealthy weight gain.
The Diet Problem
Our nation is spending more money on health care than ever before, yet the health of our population as a whole continues to decline. Health care and medical treatment was once focused on acute injury or illness. But today, our medical efforts are centered around chronic illnesses – ailments that could have often been prevented. We are inundated with marketing claims and advertisements from food processors who insist that their product is what we need to eat to maintain good health, yet the overall health of our society continues to decline.
Just a few generations ago, we had a population of strong healthy people who consumed real foods that were grown naturally. They ate from the earth – consuming vegetables, nuts and fruits that were in season, meat from animals that grazed, fish, poultry, eggs, and sometimes fresh milk. Unlike us, they consumed little or no sugar, except what was obtained naturally from fruit or some fresh honey. These people did not eat foods that came in a bag or box and their food did not have labels claiming “all natural”, “gluten-free”, or “an important part of a healthy diet”. The foods they ate met all of the aforementioned criteria but no label was needed to show it did.
But things are totally different today. Right now, there is a lot of confusion over what is healthy. We now have lots of people within our population suffering from chronic illnesses and undiagnosed malnutrition due to a poor diet. Lack of nutrients required by our body have resulted in hormone imbalances, insulin resistance, diabetes, hypo and hyperthyroid conditions, adrenal fatigue and weight gain. Often, people who are overweight are extremely malnourished. They are not underfed but they are not consuming the foods needed to help their body function optimally and to lose weight. These people struggle with overwhelming cravings for more sugar, more carbs and more junk food. The junk food and so called “healthy” junk food we consume creates nutritional imbalances and an inability for the body to heal and protect itself from external forces such as viruses and bacterial infections. It suppresses the immune system and makes us vulnerable and at risk for becoming sick and weakens are ability to fight off illness when we do get sick.
The Solution – Nutritional Therapy
The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing time after time, yet expecting different results. This is where we are with health care today. We continue to treat symptoms of chronic illnesses such as diabetes or autoimmune disease with medications, yet we don’t address the cause of the condition which begins with an imbalanced or improper diet. By treating the actual cause of the disease, we can greatly reduce the symptoms and sometimes completely reverse the condition altogether just through therapeutic nutritional changes.
This is where nutritional therapy comes in. Through the help of various nutrients and food components, nutritional therapy influences the functioning of the body, protects it against several diseases, restores the health of an ailing individual. Here, diet plays an important role in managing and controlling various diseases.
As a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), I work with clients to assess their nutrient deficiencies and customize a specific program to help them improve their health and get back to living life free of chronic symptoms and unhealthy weight gain. So many of my clients are amazed at the results they get and how easy the protocol fits into their lifestyle.
