I can’t believe it! It’s here! It seems so surreal but my new book The Simply28 Real Food Cookbook has been released! I’ve been working on this project for a couple of years ~ writing recipes, trying them out, and then rewriting them. Learning how to display the meals in the best light for pictures, which happens to be at high noon, when plenty of light but no shadows entered through my kitchen windows. This meant that I had to start cooking early in the morning on photo shoot days in order to have everything ready by noon to capture the best light. And then, there is the publishing process! Now, that was quite a journey.  I have learned so much over the last couple of years in writing this book!

Neither Snow Nor Rain …

I received a notice from the publisher that my book had been published and that I could now order copies of my book. I placed my order and on delivery day I waited anxiously for the UPS driver to deliver the box. I kept checking the tracking notifications which said it was to arrive by 8pm but we were having one of the heaviest snow storms in years! I wasn’t sure he would make it through. I waited, and I waited. I checked the tracking notifications again, no change. He should still be here by 8pm according to the notification. I looked out the window at the banks of snow piled up down our long driveway. I crossed my fingers and said a little prayer, in part for his safety but also that he would still bring my books!

And then, I see him. Headlights shining down our long driveway and pointed straight at our house! He made it! He actually made it!

And Then Came The Emotions

I brought the box into our house and set it on the table. And then I froze. I couldn’t open the box. All of a sudden, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I felt fear yet I didn’t know what I was afraid of. I felt vulnerable knowing that others would be reading my work. I felt exhilarated thinking about the many hours of work that went into writing this book and now it’s actually here. I wasn’t ready. I needed to just be with the emotions for a bit. So, I decided to wait until the next morning to open the box.

Cue the Confetti and Pop the Champagne!

I usually find that the things I worry about, obsess over, and feel that hum of anxiety over, are typically better the next morning after I’ve had a chance to sleep on it. By morning, I was ready. I jumped out of bed like a kid anticipating Christmas morning. I made my way down the stairs to the kitchen and grabbed a sharp knife from the drawer to open the box. I lifted the lid, pulled out the packing paper, and there they were. Beautiful copies of my now published book. No more edits back and forth. No more design notes. No more publishing questions. It’s done.

This Book Is For You

When I started writing the The Simply28 Real Food Cookbook I really didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know if it would even be more than a 3-ring binder collection of the recipes I created for our family.

But as my collection grew so did my list of clients. The men and women that I coached in my nutritional therapy practice wanted to know more about what foods they should eat and what foods they should avoid to reach their health goals. Working with them to understand this I realized that having this knowledge is essential to helping my readers and my clients feel their best, avoid chronic disease, and live healthier lives. So, a good portion of this book is dedicated to just that – teaching. Teaching people what to eat, what to avoid, and why. Add to that over 100 recipes for meals, snacks, desserts, and even a couple of Simply28 friendly cocktails and viola! The Simply28 Real Food Cookbook was born.

Today, I celebrate the release of my book and I also celebrate you, friend. I’m eternally grateful for the support I’ve received from family, friends, readers of my blog, and clients that I’ve had the pleasure of working with.  Thank you and I hope you enjoy!
